This platter is a fun adult-supervised project for kids. The King is a lion and his mane is made of kids' painted handprints.

What you'll need:

  1. water-based porcelain paint - Pebeo brand is dishwasher safe and non-toxic
  2. markers
  3. a platter - white looks best

First, sketch out on a blank paper how you want the King to look. Two eyes, a nose and mouth in the platter center, and explain to the kids that their palms will make the lion's face and the finger prints will create the lion's  mane.

Spread Pebeo paints on paper plates. Be near a sink so the kids can clean up quick! Have them place one hand in one color (yellow) and the other hand in orange, then press flat around the edge of the circle of paper plate. Cute!

Lift up the paper plate, wash up the kids and wait for the paint to dry.

When the Pebeo is dry you can use markers to make the lion's face. The kids can sign their names too!

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees and bake your painted platter for 15 minutes to set the paint.

We liked this idea so much we made a King of the Grill apron. You can personalize it with the kids' names .:)
